Huge Entry List for General Tire 200 at Talladega

The superspeedway races on the ARCA Menards Series calendar always boast the biggest entry lists, and Saturday’s General Tire 200 at Talladega Superspeedway will be no exception. 34 cars, led by incoming points leader Daniel Dye of GMS Racing, will take to the 2.66-mile track in hopes of scoring one of the biggest wins of the year.

Dye leads Rev Racing’s Rajah Caruth by 11 points and Venturini Motorsports’ Parker Chase by 18 coming into the race, with the latter two part of multi-car efforts coming to the track. Other major additions for this weekend with extensive ARCA experience include Drew Dollar, Thad Moffitt, and Gus Dean, as well as the return of 2020 series champion and Alabama native Bret Holmes, who has since graduated to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and last year’s runner-up finisher, 66-year-old Dave Mader III.

Heim Aims to Defend Talladega Victory, Go 2-for-2 in ’22

Corey Heim led just five laps in last year’s General Tire 200 at Talladega, but one of them was the most important one. After making the most of a one-lap restart and push to the finish, Heim used a push from then-Venturini Motorsports teammate Drew Dollar to get past Nick Sanchez on the backstretch and take his second win in the first three rounds of the season, and one of six victories overall in 2021.

Heim is back this weekend, hoping to replicate the feat with the same #20 Toyota team that he took to victory last year. Another win would mean that, for the second year in a row, Heim would sweep the early-season superspeedway rounds at Daytona and Talladega. Any Venturini win would also mark the fourth consecutive sweep of those two events for the team, and any Toyota win would mark the manufacturer’s fifth—but few drivers stand as strong of a chance at pulling it off as Heim.
