WILLIAM SAWALICH STEALS WIN IN BERLIN

Jesse Love’s ARCA Menards Series win streak is over at three races after Joe Gibbs Racing driver William Sawalich pushed him out of the lead with two laps to go in Saturday’s Berlin ARCA 200 at Berlin Raceway. While the Venturini Motorsports driver came into the event with all the momentum and the points lead, and in fact dominated nearly the entire race after winning the General Tire Pole Award, lapped traffic impeded him enough that Sawalich was able to catch up and muscle by.

For Sawalich, it was his first win on the national tour after previously taking East Series victories at Five Flags Speedway and Flat Rock Speedway. For Love, the runner-up finish was a reminder of past incidents with other JGR drivers, and he vowed to be more aggressive with the #18 Toyotas in the future. Sean Hingorani, Andres Perez de Lara, and Toni Breidinger rounded out the top five, though the latter two were a lap down on the 7/16-mile oval.

RACE PREVIEW: ELKO

It’s back-to-back race weeks for the ARCA Menards Series, with a visit to Elko Speedway and the Menards 250 next up on the calendar. The seventh round of the 2023 campaign will air live at 9PM ET on FS2, with streaming available on the FloRacing app.

Love and Sawalich will enter the event as favorites to resume their battle from Berlin on the 3/8-mile Minnesota oval. The track has been a fairly regular presence on the ARCA calendar for the past decade, with names like Brennan Poole and Grant Enfinger winning at Elko before moving into the national NASCAR ranks, and Frank Kimmel scoring one of the final wins of his legendary career at Elko in his final title-winning season of 2013. Last year, Sammy Smith won from the pole for JGR after leading all but 17 of the race’s 250 laps.
