ARCA Returns to Action with General Tire 150 at Charlotte

A healthy entry list of most of the ARCA Menards Series’ top teams will next visit Charlotte Motor Speedway for Friday night’s General Tire 150, which will air live at 6PM ET on FS1. The field will take on 100 scheduled laps of racing in the fifth round of the season, a staple of the schedule over recent years.

ARCA made its debut in Charlotte in 1996 with not one but three rounds, with two separate races in late May and another event in October. Tim Steele swept all three races the first year. The series scaled back to two races in 1998 and one in 2004 before a 14-year absence. Past ARCA winners in Charlotte include 10-time series champion Frank Kimmel, future Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman, and Adam Petty. Ty Gibbs beat Corey Heim in last year’s race.

Tight Points Battle, Jones and Gibbs’ Return Characterize General Tire 150 Storylines

Entering Friday’s General Tire 150, the Rev Racing duo of Nick Sanchez and Rajah Caruth each hold a share of the points lead at 155 apiece. Each driver has two top-five finishes and three top-10s in the first four races of the year, but Sanchez’s victories at Kansas and the General Tire 200 at Talladega are the difference. Petty GMS Racing’s Daniel Dye sits third, just three points behind them.

All of their hopes for victory may very well be spoiled by the return of Brandon Jones and Joe Gibbs Racing, though. With Ty Gibbs having moved up to a full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series ride, Kyle Busch Motorsports has handled ARCA duties for the #18 Toyota this year, but Jones will run a JGR-backed #81 as he looks to take his second win in this race and the sixth ARCA win of his career. Overall, Jones has five victories and 17 top-fives in 25 career ARCA starts.
