For the first time in 2022, the traveling roadshow that is Stadium Super Trucks will finally roar back to life as part of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. A dozen entries, representing one of the most talented entry lists in recent memory for SST, will hit the track throughout the weekend, with races on both Saturday and Sunday following the headline IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and NTT IndyCar Series events.
The entry list includes the return of many of SST’s regulars, from series founder Robby Gordon and his son Max to three-time and defending champion Matt Brabham, Robert Stout, Bill Hynes, Jerett Brooks, Shaun Richardson, Zoey Edenholm, and the return of Gavin Harlien. Davey Hamilton Jr. will be on the grid as he kicks off a full campaign, while Trophy Truck standout Ryan Arciero and internet personality Cletus McFarland will fill out the grid.
While Long Beach marks the opening round of the 2022 SST campaign, its September running last year also makes it the most recent host venue for the series. Brooks, Brabham, and Stout were on the podium for the Saturday race last fall, while Gordon beat Brooks and Brabham in the Sunday season finale. Robby Gordon’s win was his 28th of all time, second to only Sheldon Creed, while Brabham completed a perfect season of 10 podiums in 10 tries.
Prior to last season, Long Beach made its SST debut in 2014 and has been its premier event ever since. Gordon won the debut race in 2014 and EJ Viso took top honors in 2015 before the weekend was expanded to two races in 2016; that year, Creed swept both events. Brabham split the 2017 and 2019 runnings with Gordon and 2018 edition with Harlien before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a one-year hiatus.
Stadium Super Trucks action from the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will kick off on Friday at 12:40PM PT with practice. This weekend’s two SST races will run on Saturday at 4:30PM ET and Sunday at 3:30PM PT.
