Gear up for events from the biggest series in action motorsports with our weekend preview of the most exciting races in the world! From the premier open-wheel circuits in the world to both two and four-wheel events in the dirt, check in here each week to find out who’s running up front and how to watch.
IndyCar at Detroit (Sunday, 3PM ET, USA)
Coming off of the biggest race of the year, the Indianapolis 500, the NTT IndyCar Series gets back in action on the streets of Belle Isle. It’ll be the final race on this layout before the Detroit Grand Prix returns to downtown, using parts of the layout that F1 and IndyCar used in the 1980s and 90s. While silly season news like Alexander Rossi’s move to Arrow McLaren SP and Kyle Kirkwood replacing him at Andretti Autosport in 2023 has begun to dominate the news cycle, don’t forget about Indy winner Marcus Ericsson—especially since he’s the defending winner of this race.
54th SCORE Baja 500
The second round of the SCORE World Desert Championship is finally upon us, and the historic Baja 500 is sure to reignite what will likely be an intense set of 2022 title battles. The Trophy Truck podium from the season-opening San Felipe 250 was separated by just under five minutes, and the battle for the last spot on the Trophy Truck Spec podium came down to a 14-second difference after penalties. Luke McMillin and Bryce Menzies went 1-2 in San Felipe, but can defending race winner Larry Roeseler recapture last year’s magic to score his 13th overall Baja 500 win?
Championship Off-Road at Antigo (Friday, 6:30PM ET/Saturday, 10AM ET/Sunday, 9AM ET, FloSports)
Short course racing finally returns to the midwest as Championship Off-Road’s third season kicks off in Antigo, which made its return to the calendar as last year’s opener. Defending Pro 4 champion CJ Greaves, Pro 2 champion Keegan Kincaid, and Pro Lite champion Brock Heger each swept both race wins at this event in 2021. The event kicks off on Friday night with the exhibition Duel of Champions, a 16-truck Pro 2 bracket race where each matchup goes head-to-head for three laps to advance through the final round and go for $10,000.
Pro Motocross at Hangtown (Saturday, 4PM ET, MAVTV)
The second round of the 50th anniversary season of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross keeps the series in California, with Hangtown the latest host venue after moving up from its season-ending place on the calendar in 2021. Honda’s factory teams threw down the gauntlet last weekend at Fox Raceway at Pala, with 1-2s from Chase Sexton and Ken Roczen in the 450 class and brothers Jeff and Hunter Lawrence on the 250s. Can riders like defending 450 champion Dylan Ferrandis, who capped off last season with an overall win here, respond?
NHRA New England Nationals (Sunday, 7PM ET, FS1)
The Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock classes of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series head north to New Hampshire and New England Dragway for their eighth round of the season. John Force Racing currently looks like the team to beat, with Brittany Force and Robert Hight having each taken their third Wally of the year in the Virginia Nationals in mid-May. JFR’s namesake, meanwhile, is the defending winner here, joining Top Fuel’s Billy Torrence and Pro Stock’s Aaron Stanfield as the last drivers standing last June.
