FENHAUS BEATS SAWALICH—AGAIN—IN IOWA SHOWDOWN

Joe Gibbs Racing’s William Sawalich hasn’t hit too many speed bumps over the course of the 2023 ARCA Menards Series campaign, regardless of what division he’s been racing in. If he’s been Superman, though, Luke Fenhaus has been his kryptonite, sneaking past for one East series victory at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and doing so again in last weekend’s Calypso 150 at Iowa Speedway. Just like in Nashville, it was a late caution, dash to the finish, and opportunity on the low line that allowed Sawalich to power through in the combination national and East race.

The win was Fenhaus’ first in the national division, as well as his second in the East to tie Sawalich, who settled for second. National series points leader Jesse Love, Lavar Scott, and Toni Breidinger rounded out the top five. Love’s advantage is now up to 49 points over Frankie Muniz, while Sawalich maintains an 11-point lead over Fenhaus in the East standings despite both drivers having two wins and five top-fives in five races.

RACE PREVIEW: POCONO

The ARCA Menards Series trades in a uniquely shaped short track for a uniquely shaped superspeedway this coming Friday, heading to “The Tricky Triangle” for the Sunset Hill Shooting Range 150 at Pocono Raceway. The 10th round of the 2023 campaign will air live at 6PM ET on FS1, with streaming available on the FloRacing app.

Like any other ARCA race on a large speedway, the entry list is deep for this weekend, with regulars like Love, Muniz, and Breidinger supplemented by a mix of top prospects and superspeedway veterans. For the young guns, Joe Gibbs Racing will field Connor Mosack and Venturini Motorsports will have entries for Jake Finch, Conner Jones, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series full-timer Dean Thompson, the latter returning to the series after getting taken out by teammate Sean Hingorani late at Mid-Ohio. The lineup of veteran part-timers includes names like Andy Jankowiak, Sean Corr, and Cody Coughlin.
