Snapshots: Formula Drift Crossroads

World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway has etched itself into a major place in the American motorsports scene over the past few years, with the popular return of its NTT IndyCar Series race eventually paving the way for a NASCAR Cup Series date. Formula Drift has been a staple of the St. Louis-area track since 2018, with its event—aptly named “Crossroads” for being in the center of both the country and the schedule—one of the most popular of the season.

This year’s action saw Odi Bakchis join rarefied air in the FD history books, as he scored the 10th PRO win of his career after beating defending champion Fredric Aasbo in the finals. Bakchis’ win put him third in both the 2023 standings and on the all-time wins list, tying Chris Forsberg in the latter. Bakchis and Forsberg had faced off in the Final 4, making contact on Bakchis’ lead run; Forsberg was initially penalized, but his team protested the circumstances and won. Unfortunately for Forsberg, Bakchis still put on the superior performance when their battle was repeated. In PROSPEC, Ben Hobson took the event win from the top qualifying spot.
