WILLIAM SAWALICH TAKES TOP SPOT IN EAST VISIT TO FLAT ROCK
In a reversal of fortunes from the previous week at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, where he dominated the race but lost the lead on the final restart, William Sawalich laid back in the early stages of the Dutch Boy 150 at Flat Rock Speedway before muscling past Sean Hingorani with less than 50 laps to go to take the win. It was Sawalich’s second triumph of the ARCA Menards Series East season, making him the first repeat winner of the year, and it allowed him to extend his points lead to 13 over Nashville winner Luke Fenhaus.
Rev Racing’s Lavar Scott would get by Hingorani to take second in the closing laps, relegating the Venturini Motorsports driver to third, just ahead of his team owner, Billy Venturini. Venturini made a one-off return to driving for the first time in 17 years specifically to compete at Flat Rock. The race will air on Saturday at 11AM ET on CNBC.
RACE PREVIEW: GENERAL TIRE 150 AT CHARLOTTE
The ARCA Menards Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway for one of its biggest races of the year, the General Tire 150, on Friday night. The fifth round of the 2023 season, and the fourth General Tire-sponsored race of the year so far after national events at Phoenix and Talladega and an East Series round at Dover, will air live on Friday at 6PM ET on FS1.
This weekend’s entry list is led by Venturini Motorsports driver Jesse Love, who comes into Charlotte as the new points leader by two over Frankie Muniz thanks to back-to-back wins at Talladega and Kansas. NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series full-timers Dean Thompson and Grant Enfinger join ARCA mainstays like Sean Core, Gus Dean, and Daytona winner Greg Van Alst to add veteran experience to the entry list. Also competing are Stephen Leicht and Cody Coughlin, regulars at some of NASCAR’s highest levels in years past who have been making part-time returns to stock car racing at the ARCA level.
