Last Year’s Winners: Eli Tomac (450SX), Hunter Lawrence (250SX)

Last Race: Eli Tomac is the latest member of an elite club of winners of 50 Supercross races, beating the 450SX pack at Lumen Field in Seattle. The win came after Tomac had fallen as far back as fifth earlier in the race, but he had already recovered to second before leader Chase Sexton wiped out and handed him the spot. Tomac’s win allowed him to regain the red plate in a tie with Cooper Webb for the points lead. In 250SX West, it was Jett Lawrence earning his fourth win of the year after passing Stilez Robertson for the top spot; Lawrence’s points lead is now up to 23, the difference between finishing second in the feature and missing it entirely.

Race Preview: The biggest drama of the week will be how Webb and Tomac break the tie for the top of the 450 standings. Like last year, Glendale is a Triple Crown event, the third of the season after Anaheim 2 and Arlington. Tomac’s overall win here last year came with a 1-1-3, while Webb’s 8-8-5 was only good for eighth overall. Neither has been close to as dominant under the format this year, but Webb came out on top at Arlington with a 5-2-1.

Sure, the Lawrence brothers have swapped 250SX regions, but whether it’s been Jett or Hunter on track, they’ve both been a class apart from their competitors—except in the Triple Crown races. Jett fell to Levi Kitchen’s 4-2-2 at Anaheim 2 despite winning the third Moto, while Hunter’s 1-3-6 was only good for third at Arlington behind Nate Thrasher and Jordon Smith.
