Last Year’s Winners: Jason Anderson (450SX), Nate Thrasher (250SX)
Last Race: What had looked like another successful 450SX title chase for Eli Tomac ended in heartbreaking fashion in front of his home fans in Denver with a ruptured Achilles tendon. That opened the door for Chase Sexton to take the win and points lead with one race remaining. In 250SX West, RJ Hampshire scored the win, but Jett Lawrence locked up his long-expected championship with an insurmountable lead over Hampshire coming into the finale.
Race Preview: Sexton’s in great shape to celebrate his first 450 title in Salt Lake City with a win, with Tomac, defending race winner Jason Anderson, and Justin Barcia among those who have dropped out for the season in its closing weeks. With Tomac out and Cooper Webb well back of them both, the top two spots are settled; the bigger question is if Webb can hold off Ken Roczen for third, with the duo separated by just one point.
With both Lawrence brothers having taken their respective 250 division titles, we’ll get one more chance to see Jett and Hunter face off at Salt Lake City. But pooling all of the top 250 talent together certainly didn’t play into their favor the last time it happened; that race, in East Rutherford, went to their Honda teammate Max Anstie. Still, Hunter is the only defending 2022 podium finisher to be lining up this weekend, with both Nate Thrasher and Pierce Brown out.
